1. What we collect
Account data (via Clerk): if you create an account, your email address and any profile details you add are stored and processed by Clerk, our authentication provider.
Chat contents: the messages you send and the replies you receive, your word bank, your unlocked grammar rules, and your conversation history are stored in our database so the service can work. Guest-trial chats are deleted automatically after 7 days.
Guest trial sessions: for the no-account trial we store a one-way hash of your IP address (salted with a server secret — the raw IP is never stored or recoverable), used only to cap trial abuse. It is deleted with the guest row after 7 days.
Usage and billing records: we keep anonymised usage statistics (tokens used, actions performed) and, for subscribers, payment records held by Stripe.
2. How your chat data is processed
Messages you send are sent to Google Gemini to generate replies, and to speech services for audio playback and speech input. Audio recordings are processed for transcription and are not retained.
3. Processors
We rely on the following service providers:
- Clerk — authentication and account management
- Stripe — payment processing
- Google Gemini — AI text generation and speech
- Vercel — hosting and audio file storage
- Neon — database hosting
- Sentry — error monitoring
4. Retention and deletion
Guest trials are purged automatically after 7 days. You can delete your account at any time in Settings — details on the account deletion page.
One deliberate exception: anonymised usage and credit ledger rows survive account deletion with the user reference removed (set to null). These rows contain no personal data — no email, no name, no message contents — only counts and timestamps. They exist to prevent abuse and to keep our cost accounting honest, and cannot be linked back to you after deletion.
5. Cookies
The service uses strictly necessary cookies for sign-in sessions and the guest trial. No advertising or tracking cookies are used.
6. Legal bases (EEA/UK)
We process your data to perform the service you asked for (our contract with you), and, for abuse prevention and cost accounting, on the basis of our legitimate interest.
